What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the study of reflex – a fast response to stimulus and change. Reflex points located on the feet, hands and ears correspond with all the parts of the body, including organs, glands, limbs and nerves. Stimulation of specific regions located on the feet clear nerve pathways and soothe dis-ease.

Stress causes 75% of all major illnesses; reflexology is a relaxing way to ease the body back into a state of balance.  Specialized techniques are used which slow the brainwaves down to a theta frequency; the relaxed frame of mind usually experienced prior to sleep. This deep state of relaxation replenishes energy levels and helps to restore health. Continue reading “What is Reflexology?”

Success Story: Reflexology & Phantom Limb Pain

Phantom Foot

Phantom limb pain is a condition where pain is appearing to come from an area where an amputated limb used to be. This pain is often excruciating and has been described in various ways such as “burning, aching, or ‘as if the limb was being crushed in a vice”.

In 2008, an exploratory pilot study was published in the Journal of Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.

It was a 30 week study with 7 men and 3 women all having lower limb amputations and a history of phantom limb pain.  There were five phases to the study, which also involved teaching the techniques to the participants of the study.

The result:  “Each reflexology treatment made a highly significant difference and was effective in eradicating or reducing the intensity and duration of phantom limb pain.” Continue reading “Success Story: Reflexology & Phantom Limb Pain”
