Why you get ill more often when you eat fatty foods

Scientists have finally figured out why it is that fatty food is bad for you, and why people who have a poor diet get ill more often. Fatty food affects the immune system, and prevents it from functioning properly, a new study has discovered. It also seems to be put it on a constant high alert, which causes inflammation that makes the person obese. Louise Strandberg from the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg explains: “Obesity is usually associated with inflammation that does not result from an infection, which simply means that the immune defences are activated unnecessarily.”
She fed laboratory mice a diet that was primarily lard, and discovered that their immune systems were less active, and the white blood cells were less able to deal with bacteria in the blood.
