Tangerines protect against obesity, diabetes and heart problems

Tangerines are the new power fruit – they prevent obesity, type II diabetes and even heart disease, a new study has found.
The fruit’s magic ingredient is nobiletin, a flavonoid, say researchers from the University of Western Ontario.  They tested it on a group of laboratory mice, some of whom were fed a typical Western diet high in fats and simple sugars, while the rest were given the same diet but with nobiletin added. The non-nobiletin group quickly developed higher levels of cholesterol, raised blood levels of insulin, and developed a fatty liver – whereas the nobiletin group showed none of these effects, despite being fed the same food.
