Blackcurrants improve breathing during asthma attack

Asthma sufferers could be helped by eating blackcurrants. The natural chemicals in the fruit may reduce lung inflammation, and so improve breathing during an asthma attack. The fruit is rich in the antioxidant epigallocatechin, which works with the body’s immune system to reduce inflammation, a common problem during asthma attacks. One study used blackcurrants grown in New Zealand to demonstrate their effectiveness in reducing the distressing symptoms during a typical asthma attack.
