How Reflexology Helps

Reflexology is a powerful treatment to soothe the nervous system, settle the endocrine (hormone) system and bring objectivity into your life. Reflexology will also help to rebalance dis-ease and omit pain from many chronic conditions.

Reflexology cradles the nervous system, nurtures the physical body, balances the mind and settles the spirit. There are thousands of accessible nerve endings in the feet and each nerve impulse transmits and transports sensory messages to and from the brain. A reflexologist can locate areas of stress contained within areas of the body by mapping nerve pathways that originate in the feet. Stimulation of specific nerve pathways refreshes the trails of communication from one functioning system of the body to another. The result is a sense of unity, wholeness and well-being.

Prolonged exposure to states of stress upset the natural chemical balances within the body, resulting in higher levels of acidity and calcium salt levels in the blood. The excess calcium salts leads to calcification within the cells (firstly within the cell organelle mitochondria, the prime energy centre of the cell.) and tissues causing the crystal deposits. To highlight the importance of cell function it is important to understand that all of our bodily systems are architected from our cells. A mass of cells design tissue types, composition of tissue types form our organs and many organs make up our systems.

Harmonizing our bodies on a cellular level enables us to manage stress from a health perspective rather than focusing on a disease pathology and only treating the symptoms. Understanding that calcification occurs firstly in the energy centres of our cells enables us to understand how the bodies energy levels are compromised by stress. A reflexologist intervenes with specialized techniques used to degrade the crystalline matter and return it to the blood stream for elimination. Elimination will primarily occur via urination, fecal matter and sometimes sweating.

A reflexologist understands that clearing the predominant areas of crystal matter on the feet will help to purify the body. Our upright posture, less dexterity of flexures in the feet and the effects of gravity mean that the calcium salts and toxins settle more densely in the feet and this is why reflexology is so powerful as a treatment. To alleviate stress a reflexologist will locate calcium deposits and crystallization of uric acid around the nerve endings in the feet, and with extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology a reflexologist is able to rebalance the client with precise massage techniques to areas of imbalance. Once an area has been worked the nerve and tissue cells energy centres are replenished creating invigorated nerve pathways and refreshed communication to all major organs and systems.

With all systems regulating to their optimum capacity we are able to experience such benefits as good blood and lymphatic circulation, hormone regulation, efficient waste movements well nourished muscles and lubricated bones due to increased flow of fluids. The list of benefits are expansive but it is important to note that reflexology works on a base level by soothing the nerves and therefore improving the bodies natural rhythms with nature. Clients that have regular treatments find a profound sense of objectivity within their lives. Reflexology is ultimately grounding and tends to the journey of the client, their past, present and consequently effects all future steps.

  1. Reflexology though old in Europe and Asia is gaining more acceptance in Uganda where I live. I have ever been reflexed and over time have experienced revitalization of many body systems I should say i.e. I found it and aromatherapy definitely beneficial to my health and hereby do recommend it.

  2. I have been doing reflex massage on myself for some 20 years now. It has made me maintain my health without resorting to drugs. I am on my 81st years of age but I am still curious if there are some of you specializing on reflexology who have been able to discover health problems which are instantly improved by first aid Reflexology like the pressure on the top of the middle finger to ease a coughing fit. I would like to know if heart attack or asthma can be eased thro First aid Reflexology . Just being so really curious not for me but for others. THanks.!

  3. Will it help tinnitis? I have a friend that uses other coping methods to reduce the “noise” in his ears. Of course they don’t help and I would like to learn reflexology for my self and my customers but if it worls for tinnitus and a few other things I would so love to learn

  4. Hi Pamela,
Yes I have found that Reflexology helps tinnitus. Working the inner ear reflexes in the foot and hand very dilligently brings positive results.

  5. Thanks Lauren – for the response. I downloaded the foot and hand info you gave me and went to work on him that same day you replied and his ears were super annoying to him that day. well he went to sleep very early lol. I didn’t tell him what I was doing but he slept well and had a nap too the next day. He said he was somewhat better.

I am going to do it again today too. I really wish I could get it to go away for him altogether. Apparently it is very common to have this if you are a workaholic or have stressful jobs. He is both. He isn’t so much a workaholic anymore so I am hoping he benefits. At least he gets his feet done lol

  6. Pamela,
I find that the best results come when the person with the complaint works on their own hands every opportunity they get. Sitting in a traffic jam, on the phone, watching TV, even during daily bathroom visits! This is the key to success with complaints like tinnitus, working the related reflexes frequently and thoroughly. Tinnitus doesn’t happen overnight – and it most likely won’t disappear overnight! As I said diligently working the reflex points will certainly help.

  7. Lauren,
You are right.. LOL I do this to myself (a technique) on my hand that my mom showed me last year. I told her about a pain in my hands and wrists that I get from tendonitus. She showed me a spot to do below my thunb-at first it hurt like crazy while she was doing it but when I got home from my 5 hour drive to her place I had to tell her that my hands didn’t hurt anymore. I still do it just whenever.

By the way. I asked my friend if he could remember if last Sunday how much better his ears hurt. He said the were considerably better. I asked him if he was sure and he said YES. lol. Finally I told him why and what I had done. I wanted to see what affect the reflexology would have on him. Then he wanted to know WHAT I had done. SO I showed him so that he could do it himself several times aday. He was quite interested.

    Will keep you posted!
    THANKS

  8. Pamela,
This is why Reflexology is a win-win – because even as you press on a certain area, you are also putting pressure on the thumb or finger that is doing the work, and so those reflexes get the benefit as well! Tips of thumb and finger relate to brain, and there aren’t many of use who don’t need a bit of brain stimulation throughout the day! 🙂
Do let us know what happens – it gives so many others reading this, encouragement for a solution to a difficult condition – which so many others say cannot be helped.

  9. 🙂 I will! I am one of those people that when you say something can’t be done or something can’t be helped I will find a way

  10. Hi Lauren,
Just letting you know it sure works!
We went camping this weekend and I did some other pressure points on my hands while we were driving home to help with pressure in my ears while driving up and down the mountains and also for allergies. I could feel the difference immediately and my ears didn’t pop.

  11. Hi Pam,
Yes Reflexology is your on the go first aid kit. You can never leave home without it! Hope you enjoyed your camping in the Mountains – what a wonderful way to spend time!

  12. Hello,
I have been studying reflexology for several years. As a young girl I suffered with many ear infections and just problems in general with my ears.
As time went by I was married and had children. We would go to the mountains every so often, however never really went on a holiday. We saved up for several years to take the children to Disneyland. I went to see my Doctor and advised me to chew gum and to also take sudafed. From Edmonton to California my ears never popped. The pressure built up inside my head for a couple of days. On about the 3rd day my head felt like an explosion and I fell to the ground. I was confused and didn’t know what to think. When I started to study hand reflexology, I started massaging the points on my hands to alleviate the pressure in my ears – to this day my ears pop beautifully and I’ve never had a problem. Reflexology is amazing and I can honestly say there is hardly a day that goes by that I don’t us, do or think about reflexology. Good luck, wishing you all the very best in your new adventures!
